Project: Glendale Hyperion Bridge Complex and Seismic Retrofit Improvement Project

Client: Los Angeles City Department of Public Works (DPW)

Building support to ensure the safety of a historic landmark.

A distinctive, 75-year old historic landmark, the Glendale Hyperion Bridge is actually a complex of five bridge structures spanning the I-5 Freeway and the Los Angeles River, linking the communities of Atwater Village and Silverlake. The LA DPW’s $62 million project upgraded the structure to withstand an earthquake, restore the bridge’s historical appearance, and improve traffic and pedestrian circulation. KPA provided outreach and public involvement services for the retrofit project both initially and after the project was reactivated with refined plans.

Deliverables:

  • Outreach and public involvement program including CEQA and NEPA compliance awareness

  • Outreach to schools, neighborhood councils, community organizations, chambers of commerce, and elected officials and their staffs

  • Collected input from residents and businesses adjacent to the project

  • Conducted focus groups with the local business community

  • Community meeting and workshop facilitation and staffing

  • Stakeholder analysis

  • Developed public presentations

  • Press releases
