Project: LA River Path

Client: LA County Metro

Involving the community in a safer way to walk, cycle and roll along the LA River.

The LA River Path project will design and construct an approximately 8-mile shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path along the Los Angeles River between Elysian Valley and Maywood, through downtown Los Angeles and the City of Vernon. The project will provide a safe and accessible off-street commute option when it closes an existing gap in the Los Angeles River Bike Path to provide a seamless 32-mile bicycle and pedestrian route from the San Fernando Valley to Long Beach. KPA is part of the multi-year outreach team working to understand the community’s needs and desires. Thus far, KPA has connected with hundreds of community members to share information about the project and ensure the path will serve existing communities as well as meet future needs.

Deliverables:

  • Staffed roundtables, open houses and scoping meetings

  • Community meeting logistics including secure venues and translators, promoting via door-to-door flyer distribution and flyer drop-offs at key public areas

  • Presentations to schools, teachers and parents in Maywood and East Los Angeles

  • Staffed pop-up events at community festivals, local 5K races, college in City of Commerce, Boyle Heights, Huntington Park, East Los Angeles, and Vernon

  • Conducted outreach in English and Spanish
